The league has also announced that games record holder Brent Harvey will be the premiership cup ambassador.

AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan launched the finals on Monday and confirmed again that controversial former Essendon coach James Hird will present the Norm Smith Medal to the player judged best afield in the grand final.

Malthouse received the Jock McHale Medal on three occasions: twice as West Coast’s premiership coach in 1992 and 1994, and once as Collingwood’s premiership coach in 2010.

The four-time All-Australian Harvey was part of North Melbourne’s 1999 premiership team.
